The core of the JW Winco locking joint is a locking plate with precisely aligned serrations, as well as adjustments based on positive and non-positive connections.

JW Winco Inc.'s locking joint includes a serrated locking plate, thrust spring and guide housing. According to the company, the core of these joints is a locking plate with precisely aligned serrations and adjustments based on positive and non-positive connections.

Winco stated that it relies on a typical tooth profile configuration and can make important and specific adjustments in increments of 6, 7.5, 10, and 15 degrees. The fastening of the locking plate is oriented around the position of the serrations, enabling well-defined adjustments. The company uses AISI CF-8 (A2) quality hardened sintered steel, sintered stainless steel, and precision cast stainless steel, and plans to add more materials to its product line soon.

Winco recently added GN 189, a 60-tooth glass fiber reinforced plastic locking plate to its product line. It is said that the locking plate provides a very short escape path and has zero backlash after re-tightening. They can also self-center and produce exceptionally strong joints.

For heavy-duty applications, Winco recommends the use of stainless steel serrated locking plates GN 188 for welding, available in sizes up to 3.15 inches (80 mm) in diameter. Tension pins oriented around the serration simplifies pre-positioning, and optional threaded bushings and centering bars can be easily added.

In addition, the precision cast stainless steel GN 187.5 locking plate can be provided with threaded bolt connections, fastening flanges or welded plates. Together with the GN 187.6 locking joint set, the stainless steel locking plate can be combined into a locking joint, which can be locked with a hexagonal wrench, and even can be locked without tools with an adjustable handle with or without an eccentric cam. The GN 187.5 locking plate is compatible with the GN 187.4 locking plate, allowing the realization of unusual joint assemblies.

When combined with two GN 187.4 locking plates, the aforementioned guide housing ensures that the forced connection is maintained even when the joint is loose, thus preventing the saw teeth from wearing. In other words, the guide housing is also an important element, which is why Winco is already working on new variants of these, including sealed models.

When the length and rigidity of the workpiece make it difficult to machine, many people turn to stabilizers.

These vise jaws use protruding mechanical pins to repeatedly support the workpiece horizontally or obliquely. They are said to allow faster setup than traditional parallelism.

The use of magnets to fix metal parts is shifting from surface grinding to a wider range of applications in general metal processing, especially milling. Advances in magnetic technology have prompted many workshops to reassess how they are secured to the workpiece. Let’s take a look at how magnets can be a viable workholding solution for your store.
